As part of the Worthing Open Houses 2011, phonie Worthing exhibited in venue 12 - The Red Phone Box, Steyne Gardens, on the Art Trail, 18 & 19 and 25 & 26 June and 2 & 3 July.
phonie art is about capturing the moment on a mobile phone camera, a digital version of the 'instamatic'. It is not about technical excellence or what can be done in post-production. The phonie Worthing exhibition expressed this through a number of unusual, quirky images showing Worthing from a different perspective
The exhibition comprised of 100 images by 37 contributors, all taken on mobile phone cameras and submitted via social media, were printed on business cards (which referenced the screen size of the phone camera) and set into the windows of the phone box. Exact numbers of visitors to the box are unknown as it was unmanned for part of the time, though more than 50 comments were left in the visitors book.
Saturday 25 June was a 'meet and greet' day on (publicised through facebook) where a number of exhibitors came down, as well as those out on the art trail and a few surprised passers-by.
